Summary

The Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) is a first-voice museum that explores and celebrates the history, culture and contributions of the people of the African Diaspora around the world. Sussman/Prejza was committed to integrating all design elements of the space with the mission of MoAD – the results are seen in the architecture, exhibit design, identity and collateral materials, as well as environmental graphics. Panning three floors of the museum’s interior wall, the mosaic mural image of an African child announces the museum’s purpose and presence to the street. The face is made up of thousands of images, stating that MoAD is about people and their experiences. In addition to the main task of exhibit design, S/P designed a comprehensive branding program that has received national awards from the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) and the American Association of Museums (AAM).
