John Anson Ford Theatres

Scope
Signage and Wayfinding
Summary

Adding vibrance and a fresh look to enhance wayfinding at the Johns Anson Ford Theatres was the charge presented by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission as an interim measure for this historic landmark. Situated on 45 wooded acres in the Cahuenga Pass, across from the Hollywood Bowl, The Ford Theatres is one of the oldest performing arts venues in the city of Los Angeles. This spectacular site offers year-round programming in two intimate venues, a 1200-seat outdoor amphitheatre and the 87-seat [inside] the Ford Theatre.

SP&CO approached the design for the historic site in with a series of painted graphics, augmented by identification and wayfinding signs and graphic banners. The resulting design has made it easier for visitors to navigate the hillside site and enjoy the ambiance and the amenities of this local treasure.
